Dan Aykroyd and Paul Feig had some issues in 2017 during their movie “Ghost Busters.” Are they friends? Let’s find out.
Paul Feig, the filmmaker of Ghostbusters, is the one Dan Aykroyd blames for Sony not approving a sequel to the 2016 comedy.
The actor appeared in the first Ghostbusters and a cameo in Feig’s revival and was a guest this weekend on Britain’s Sunday Brunch.
He praised the film’s all-female cast before going on to explain why he believes Feig has made it all but impossible for there to be a sequel.

Co-star and co-writer of the first two Ghostbusters films, Dan Aykroyd, criticized director Paul Feig for overspending on the sequel last summer.
Given that it lost an estimated $70 million at the box office, the Ghostbusters reboot is seen as a failure.
What Happened Between Dan Aykroyd And Paul Feig? Conflict Explained
The offensive cultural clamor had unfortunately overshadowed Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters revival by the time it eventually made it to theaters last summer.
The overall tone of the situation soured long before the movie bombed—despite receiving generally positive reviews—at the box office, what with whiny man-children complaining that the film destroyed their childhoods, hot takes calling out these non-fans for their subtly sexist remarks.
The movie’s cast and creators must address the controversy in every interview. And even a year later, there is still a lot of animosity for the remake.
Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote and starred in both the first and second Ghostbusters films, blasted Feig over the weekend for exceeding his budget and sabotaging any future sequels to the franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aykroyd claimed during an interview on the British chat show Sunday Brunch that “he spent too much on it, and he didn’t shoot parts we proposed to him.”
He responded, “No, we don’t need them,” to several scenarios that were going to be required.
Then, after we reviewed the film, they realized they needed them, so he had to return, costing $30 to $40 million in additional filming.”
Despite making $229 million worldwide against a $144 million production budget, Ghostbusters is believed to have lost about $70 million since so much money was spent on marketing (which is not factored into the production budget).

Aykroyd remarked, “[Feig] won’t return to the Sony lot anytime soon. “It made much money worldwide but cost too much, so doing another is not economically viable.”
The odd thing about this is that Aykroyd is known for being an ardent supporter of Feig’s Ghostbusters.
Bill Murray is in it, and the ensemble gives excellent sincere performances. It also has more chuckles and scares than the first two movies.
At the time of the movie’s release last year, Aykroyd posted on Facebook. However, you’re only as good as your last hit, and that was before the box office earnings started to come in.
