Ed Reed, born Edward Earl Reed Jr. is an American football coach and former safety.

On September 11, 1978, Reed was born in St. Rose, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. In Louisiana’s Destrehan, he attended Destrehan High School.
He was an all-state defensive back, kick returner, and New Orleans Times-Picayune District Most Valuable Defensive Player for the Fighting Wildcats football team.
In addition to playing running back and quarterback, Reed had 83 tackles, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles, and 12 passes deflected in his senior season.

Reed was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round (number 24 overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. Following Oklahoma’s Roy Williams, who was taken by the Dallas Cowboys with the eighth overall pick, Reed was the second safety drafted.
On May 6, 2015, Reed announced his retirement from football after sitting out the whole 2014 season. On May 7, 2015, he entered into a one-day contract with the Ravens before announcing his retirement.
In his first year of eligibility, Reed was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 2, 2019. He was the third native Raven to receive the top career honor in his sport. The NFL 100 All-Time Team included him.
