Steve Kroft Apologizes for Affair: 60 Minutes Reporter Cheated on Wife

September 2024 · 2 minute read

Now it’s his turn to say sorry. Veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft admitted on Wednesday, Jan. 7, that he did, in fact, cheat on his wife Jennet Conant, after a report revealed his affair with a woman over a period of three years.

“I had an extramarital affair,” Kroft, 69, told Page Six in a statement. “That was a serious lapse of personal judgment and extremely hurtful to my wife and family, and for that I have nothing but regret. My wife and I are committed to each other and are working hard to get past this, and consider it a private matter.”

Kroft’s affair with New York lawyer Lisan Goines was first exposed by the National Enquirer. According to the tabloid, the CBS journalist pursued Goines after they met at the St. Regis hotel bar in Manhattan back in 2011.

Page Six published excerpts from the Enquirer on Wednesday, of Kroft’s many alleged graphic text messages to Goines. The two would meet up in NYC and Washington, D.C., where they would carry out their affair.

The respected journalist — who has been a 60 Minutes staple for 26 years and with CBS for 31 years — added to Page Six that his affair had no bearing on his ability to do his job properly.

“This was a personal failure, not a professional one,” Kroft insisted, “and had no impact whatsoever on my job as a journalist.”

Kroft and his wife married in 1991, and share one son.
